BEHIND THE SEAMS
One hectare of mulberry trees yields around 11.25 tons of leaves, which produces around 200 kg of cocoons, equating to about 40 kg of raw silk yarns. To weave this raw material into silk, a machine uses about 1000 kW from start to finish.
Our black gold silk is a fabric that was produced by a larger design house. The full quantity was not used by them and would have ended up in a landfill. So, we saved the fabric, the abundant resources and energy used to create it, and chose to give this deadstock fabric a second life, as our beautiful Laurel Dress.
Choosing deadstock fabric is one important step towards effectively breaking the harmful cycle. Our brand believes in saving our planet and minimizing our waste, water and energy footprint wherever we can. We strive to be a part of the emergent movement towards sustainable fashion.
